Creation of National youth policy
The LYON has been involved in a main of significantly strengthening good governance in the country through the establishment of a youth policy by incorporating ideas and suggestions of all concerned youth & civil organizations since 2007 to present
We Undertook a few comparative case studies, in the light of other countries which had already implemented youth policies successfully. Those studies finding submitted to the National Youth Service council and convinced the Chairmen on important of the National Youth policy.
LYON and some other few organizations were able to convinced the related ministry and they appointed a policy Drafting Committee. Dr. Shantha Abeysinghe (Senior Lecturer, Open University of Sri Lanka) who was the head of this committee was closely working with civil society organizations.
LYON was the focal point and Chairman of LYON Aruna Pradeep Kumara is the Co- Convenor of Civil Society Consultation Committee which formed for the facilitation of National Youth Policy drafting process.
As a result of that in 2011 with the initiated of the Ministry of youth affairs and skill development, National youth service council, Open university of Sri Lanka prepared the National youth policy document and in 2014 Sri Lanka government publicly recognized the Policy.
